The girls were very excited when I told them we were heading up to Echuca for the weekend. Neither of them has ever been up that way before so they were interested to see how different it was to our part of the state. Whenever they see it on the news it always has a much higher temperature than us in the summer and they always say ‘Wow it is so hot there!’ Echuca is on the Murray River and is around 5 hours driving time from our home in Gippsland. The Murray River separates the towns of Echuca in Victoria and Moama in New South Wales, Australia
We had been invited to the Grand Opening of the Discovery Parks Maidens Inn Water Park over in Moama, which we would attend on the Sunday. Unfortunately, Mark had to work on the weekend so he would have to miss out on the Water Park Opening so we picked up a very excited Nanna on the way! Poor Dad had to stay at home and miss the fun!
To ‘help me out’ Mark had set our Tomtom up for me the night before so I could just plug it in and go and as everyone knows sometimes Tomtom gets a little side tracked. He has a plan of his own. Our Tomtom took us through some gorgeous little towns and some beautiful scenery that were not really on the way we had planned in our head but luckily it was all so beautiful that we soon forgave him (And possibly after a slightly panicked phone call to Mark) After disobeying Tomtom a couple of times with some questionable directions we saw the Echuca caravan park or should i say Discovery Parks Echuca sign in the distance…we arrived at our Echuca accommodation! I pulled into the car park and followed the signs to the main office to check in.
I was not the only one in line to check in but Leanne behind the counter was an absolute pro! She had everyone checked in, chatting and laughing the whole time. This was going to be awesome! There is a small shop that has milk, bread and a pretty large assortment of other things you may have forgotten to bring with you in the office at Discovery Parks Echuca.
It also had some soft drinks and sweets for the kids. I knew at some stage mine would be down here getting a treat for sure! Just as I was having a look Blade walked in and helped with my check in with Leanne. I introduced myself and told Blade about my booking. He had all the paperwork lined up and just needed a few details from me. I signed my paper, got my keys, got my map to our cabin and the code to the gate. There were now some more people to check in so I decided to go and get us sorted before returning to the office to find out some more about Discovery Parks Echuca.
Finding our way to the cabin was really easy and we got a great look at the park as we drove to find it. There were plenty of different types of accommodation. The girls were pointing out everything they wanted to do and I was sure at this point I would be running after them for the whole two nights! As we pulled up right next to our cabin there were squeals of delight as they saw the covered pool and the playground at the back of our cabin. Plans were hatched to immediately put on their bathers for a well-earned swim. If I thought the excitement was at meltdown levels in the car it nearly reached epic proportions when they saw the jumping pillow right out the front of our cabin! Now there was a delema…swim or jump?!
We walked up the steps and as we opened the sliding door I was just blown away by the cabin. It was just beautiful, a real home away from home and I immediately loved it.

I was in total heaven as I walked through our home away from home. After our tour of the cabin, it was time to move in! Would we ever be able to leave?!
We unpacked the car quickly…well Nanna and I unpacked the car as the girls were already on the jumping pillow with the children from the next cabin. It is amazing at places like this where everyone just gets together and the jumping pillow was the place to be! As Nanna watched the girls I walked back to Leanne at the office to ask some questions about Discovery Parks Echuca.
Discovery Parks Echuca is around 10 acres and has:
- Cabins for any sized family or group
- Powered sites
- Unpowered sites
- On Site Vans
On my walk, I got to see more of the park than when I drove in. People called hello to me from their vans or cabins and as I passed people we greeted each other with a smile and hello. As I headed into our little street all I could hear was my kid’s laughter from the jumping pillow. More kids had joined them and they were having a brilliant time. I decided to make myself a coffee and I sat down on our balcony to watch them play. As I watched the girls play I was reminded of why I enjoyed similar holidays as a kid. There was always someone to play with and always something fun to do. I also love the community feel that a holiday park can provide for families.
For the kIds Discovery Parks Echuca has:
- A large covered pool
- A large outdoor pool
- Jumping Pillow
- Mini Golf
- Plenty of areas with grass and trees (for a good old game of hide and seek)
Both the girls were sad they had not thought to bring bikes or scooters to get around the park on. All of the roads would have been a great, safe place for them to get around on their bikes or scooters.
Later on that night I decided to use the bbq area to cook our dinner on while the girls played on the playground next to it. The bbq was the shiniest I have ever seen and I was so scared to use it and make it dirty. As I was finishing cooking our dinner a gentleman walked over and asked if I was finished and I said that I had to clean it first. He smiled at me and said ‘don’t worry love I will clean the barbie for you when I am done’ I thanked him and went back to have dinner with my family out on our balcony.
I absolutely loved our stay accommodation in Echuca and we can’t wait to get back there for another visit to explore more of that beautiful region. We can definitely recommend Discovery Parks for family-friendly accommodation base to explore the things to do in Echuca.
What did Marley think of Discovery Parks Echuca?
I really liked the jumping pillow and the pool. There were so many kids there to play with and I made lots of friends. I also really liked the spa bath that I got to have with my mum. It was the first time I have had a spa bath and it was so much fun!
What did Willow think of our accommodation in Echuca?
I got to have my breakfast out on the balcony and listen to the birds that were our early in the morning. There was a kookaburra in a tree near us and I really liked watching it. I was also really happy that I got my own room and a top bunk!
What did Nanna think of our Echuca accommodation?
I loved that it was quiet and that we could sit and watch the kids play happily from our balcony. I was also really impressed that the kitchen actually had everything you would need to cook and then serve up dinner. Having a big family that was always something that was a problem for me but not here!

I was reminded of just how much a caravan park inspires people to get back to chatting to strangers, smiling at someone as they walk past or greeting them with a friendly hello. This sense of community can get so lost now with our ever increasing lives and people becoming time poor. I was so relaxed not just with the peaceful surroundings or my beautiful place to stay but also with the knowledge that people around me were there to relax and have a good time as well. We loved our time in this Echuca caravan park.Read our review of Discovery Parks Maidens Inn water park
