Paris for international visitors

International travel to France requires a bit more thought. You will need travel insurance to make sure you don’t go home with a large bill for medical services.

If you use your bank account from home, you will be stung with high transaction fees, while your mobile phone calls will all be charged at an international rate. These are just some of the things you need to think about when you visit Paris with teenagers.

  • For International travellers, travel insurance is a must, get a quote through Insurance Masters and don’t go home with a huge bill for medical expenses.

  • A 4G pocket Wi-Fi modem is essential for accessing the internet. You can rent a pocket modem that you can pick up at the airport or your hotel, alternatively buy a pocket modem that you can use on all future trips with your phone, tablet or computer.
  • Make sure you grab a VPN for your trip. VPN Proxy Master has plans available from one month to one year to help keep your data safe from hackers and malware while travelling.

The very best things to do in Paris with teens

There are so many things to do in Paris with teenagers that you could visit numerous times and still not see it all.

A city of this size is forever changing, even though it is centuries old. Here are some of the activities in Paris that we did with our travelling teens in Paris.

Go to the top of the Arc de Triomphe

One of the most famous monuments in Paris is the Arc de Triomphe. The views from the top of the Arc de Triomphe are amazing, and they have some of the best views of the main attractions in Paris.

2 teenage girls enjoying the view from the Arc de Triomphe
The Arc de Triomphe is one of the great Paris attractions for teenagers

You can also watch the roundabout below, which is an attraction in itself…how does no one crash their cars there? Book your tickets today.

We can’t believe it took us four trips to Paris before we went to the top of the Arc. We had been under it many times, but there is nothing like the views from up there. Below, we have checked out the best deals to pick the best Arc d’Triomphe experience.

Travel with teens tip:

You do have to have your bag checked before you go up the Arc d’ Triomphe so we suggest a small backpack that is easy to open. Some people were surprised when the guards actually moved things around in the bags. They are allowed to do this and if you ask them not to you can be denied entry.

Walk the Champs Elysee

If you haven’t wandered the Champs Élysée, have you been to Paris?! While the prices are not for the faint-hearted in some of the shops, they are great to wander and have a look at. Do be aware that some shops will limit access, so be prepared to be turned away if you are not sporting your Paris best!

Some shops on the Champs Elysee are:

  • Louis Vuitton
  • Apple
  • Zara
  • Disney
  • H&M
  • Dior Homme

Travel with teens, Champs Élysée tip:

There are also some amazing places to sit and eat but I can assure you they are ridiculously priced and you will pay more for eating on Champs Elysees than you will for the actual food. It would be a better idea to go off this street to find some amazing Paris street food but having a drink or snacks on the Champs Elysee is one of the best things to do in Paris with teenagers.

Ride the hop-on, hop-off bus in Paris

Paris has a brilliant metro, and it is easy to find your way around, but you don’t see much travelling through the tunnels under Paris. Up on the roads, you can see all the neighbourhood sights and plan to go back if you feel it is a spot for you and your teens in Paris to visit.

See the Latin Quarter, Paris Street Art, Galleries Lafayette, and the streets of Saint-Germain.

The tour bus will show you the best places to visit with teenagers in Paris.

We love riding the hop-on, hop-off buses and they get you to the sights very quickly, especially if you are on a strict time frame. It also saves your legs as the biggest and best sights in Paris are far away from each other. Riding the Paris hop on hop off bus is one of the best things to do in Paris for travelling teens and their families.

Educational places in Paris with teenagers – visit a museum

You can’t go to Paris with teens without visiting one of the many museums. The Louvre Museum is one of the top sites in Paris to visit with teens,

It will have you busy for hours, wandering the halls magnificently decorated with some of the most valuable artworks in the world. Painters such as Renoir, van Gogh, Monet and Da Vinci grace the Louvre walls. The Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo are the most famous artworks in the museum

A visit to the Louvre is one of the cool things to do in Paris

Picking a museum is probably the hardest part. With the Louvre receiving over 10 million visitors last year, here are some alternatives to visiting the world’s most famous museum. Pick up a Paris Museums Pass for discounts or book Louvre tickets.

Other museums in Paris for teens:

  • Musée des Arts Décoratifs
  • Musée Marmottan-Monet

Visiting museums in Paris with teenagers tip:

Many people do go to the Louvre though as it houses some of the most famous pieces on the planet. I think it would be a much easier museum to visit with older kids too. Make sure you take the time to organise your tour though so you see all of the artworks and don’t end up missing them. You can also ask for an activity at the information desk if your teens in Paris still like that.

Visit the Atelier des Lumières

If being completely immersed in Art is for you, you must visit the Atelier des Lumieres. This amazing Digital Artspace is displayed in an old foundry that was left unused for over 20 years.

Now you can find some of the world’s best artists having their artwork digitally displayed on 10-meter-high walls accompanied with a soundtrack.

You can sit and enjoy or wander the space to find the perfect place to experience the art and what emotions it brings. Now, art is open to all ages and in a completely new way.

Exhibitions change, and new displays are set up, so please check to see if the display you want is still being shown. You can see the current exhibitions and search for tickets here.

The Père Lachaise Cemeteryunique things to do in Paris

A visit to the largest cemetery in Paris is one way to spend an interesting world schooling adventure. Many will think this may not be the best attraction or maybe too macabre for teens to see, but Père Lachaise Cemetery is the most visited necropolis in the world.

If you go on a guided tour of the Paris cemetery, you will learn why it is so popular and be taken to the most significant gravesites within the walls of the 110 acres. Here, you will find the final resting places of people such as Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf and Jim Morrison.

Please remember that although this is one of the top Paris places to see, it is also a cemetery, and the utmost respect must be displayed to all who rest there.

Things to do in Paris with teenage girls – High Tea

High Tea started as a quintessentially British thing but is now one of the best things to do in Paris with teenagers. This afternoon tea tradition involves savoury sandwiches, cakes, pastries, and, of course, tea and is one of the best things to do in Paris with teenagers.

If you’re looking to experience high tea firsthand, there are plenty of places in Paris to have a High Tea. But be warned – it can be quite addictive! Once you’ve tasted those delicious treats, you’ll likely want to indulge again and again. Some of the best Paris High Tea venues are.

Visit Sainte Chapelle and the Conciergerie

Churches are also places you can visit with your travelling teens. Now that they are older they may understand the church’s rules better than younger children…although no one ever holds it against the little ones!

Saint Chapelle is a church that was built in the 13th Century. The upper Chapel has some of the most stunning stained-glass windows ever. The lower Chapel is stunning in navy blue and gold.

Now with Norte Dame under construction Sainte Chapelle can get very busy and crowded at times.

The Conciergerie is the place where many prisoners were kept during the French Revolution before being taken to Place de la Concorde and being beheaded. The most famous of these prisoners was Queen Marie Antoinette. There is the courtyard where she did her daily exercise, and some things that may have been hers are on display.

You can easily combine your tickets to save some money and some time. We found we spent more time at the Conciergerie than we did at Saint Chapelle.

There is also information on what happened during the revolution, which is a great world schooling activity for teens.

Make it easier on yourself and buy combined entry tickets for Sainte Chapelle & Conciergerie

Do a Seine River Cruise

Nothing is better than seeing a city from the water that is the bloodline from years ago. Many cities were built on rivers, and Paris is one of the best to tour. You can get a beautiful view of Notre Dame, The Conciergerie, Pont Neuf and the Eiffel Tower.

If you are visiting Paris in summer, this is one of the best things to do in Paris with teenagers. A great way to save some dollars is to combine a Seine River Cruise and the Paris Hop on hop off bus in a combined ticket.

Riding the hop-on-hop-off boat on the Seine was a great way for us to see the busy city of Paris from a different perspective. You can choose so many different Seine River cruises. You can also join a dinner cruise or enjoy an easy lunch cruise, taking in the sights of Paris.

Picnic under the Eiffel Tower

Looking for one of the best things to do in Paris with teenagers? Lining up for hours may not be your thing, and I can tell you it was not something our teens were keen on doing, so we had to find a way of enjoying the Eiffel Tower from the ground. There is no better way to do that than having a picnic under the Eiffel Tower.

2 teenage girls in Paris France taking selfies in front of the Eiffel Tower
A family weekend in Paris must include the Eiffel Tower

Grab yourself a baguette and some amazing cheese, sit down under the Eiffel Tower, and have an epic picnic for one of the most memorable things to do in Paris with teenagers.

If getting to the top of the Tower is on your list of Paris must-sees, we have this list of brilliant ways to get there!

Saving money in Paris tip:

You can also find a butcher that has a rotisserie chicken in many places in Paris. We did this very often to save some money. We got a traditional baguette, a chicken and some of the potatoes that were cooking under the chicken and had that often for our meal. It was about 13 Euro for all of that.

Paris for foodies: an epic meal on the Eiffel Tower

You can also add an amazing meal to your Paris itinerary with teens. While it may not be for everyone or even in everyone’s budget, this would have to be one of the most incredible experiences in France!

As we have yet to do this ourselves, we have included some of the dinner options we have looked at. The closest we got was our perfect picnic under the tower, and to be honest with one of our fussy eaters, the menu never quite matched what we were looking for!

Things for teenagers to do in Paris – visit a wax museum

The Grevin Museum. A trip to Paris with teens must include a trip to the Grevin Wax Museum! Much like Madame Tussauds, the Grevin features famous people from all walks of life. The museum is divided into different galleries with themes like fictional characters and music icons.

You’ll love taking pictures with Kylian Mbappé, Louis XIV, Lady Gaga, or even Donald Trump! Wax Museums are such a fun family activity to be enjoyed in Paris. You can buy your tickets here.

Gorgeous views from above: Paris Balloon Flights

While not a traditional balloon flight over the city, this has to be one of the best ways to get unobscured views of Paris. This tethered balloon, the Ballon de Paris Generali, will raise you 150 meters into the air.

Flights depend on the weather and, at peak times, can become very busy, but you can choose the best time of day to experience the flight. Open from 9 am to 8.45 pm, there is plenty of time for you to have your flight.

Located at Parc André Citroën, right near the Eiffel Tower, it is easily accessible as you discover the amazing sights of Paris.

Street Art in Paris

Street art is found worldwide but is especially prevalent in major cities. Cities are home to a wealth of street art, from graffiti on building walls to pieces painted on lanes and bridges. Street art provides a unique aesthetic for these places and attracts tourists and teenagers alike to see the artists take on pop culture, current events and more.

Street Art in Paris is found around The Oberkampf Neighbourhood, Montmartre and La Villette canal. Explore Paris with a street art tour, or get your teen excited with a graffiti workshop.

Wander the streets of Montmartre

This is such a bustling part of Paris and one we love, although it has changed over the years of us visiting Paris with kids. What was once a run-down area with many little discount shops is now being taken over by big brand shops.

This doesn’t change the fact you need to go up the famous street, past all the little souvenir shops, and get a picture of the Sacre Coeur Church. You can then take the funicular up to the Church or walk the steps.

The Sacre Couer cathedral at night in Paris
Things to do in the evening in Paris include visiting Sacre Couer at Montmartre

You can get amazing and free views over Paris from up at the Church. Behind Sacre Couer Basilica is a maze of little streets with artists, souvenir shops and gorgeous little French cafés to explore. It is a hot tourist spot so that you will pay a little more there, but it is still one of the best places to visit in Paris with teenagers.

Some top things to do in the Montmartre area are:

  • Visit a funky little store called Pylons. I love all the quirky little things it has in it and you don’t find the shops often out of France
  • Grab a baguette or a chocolate croissant and sit on the steps to enjoy it
  • Ride the gorgeous carousel…even the adults love this one
  • Look for souvenirs. They are the common ones around Paris but I find they are a good price and you do have to go home with a couple of traditional touristy Paris souvenirs
  • Watch an artist at their easel paint a picture, or get one done yourself on a Paris trip
  • Enjoy free views over Paris if you don’t pay for the cable car up!

Ghosts, Mysteries and Legends: Night Walking Tour of Paris

Ghost story tours are a popular tourist attraction in many parts of the world. They are usually conducted by a guide who tells stories about the ghosts and legends of the area.

The tour guides often dress in period costumes to add to the atmosphere. The tours usually take place at night, when dark and spooky. In Paris, the Ghosts Mysteries and Legends night walking tour will keep you entertained while you learn about the dark past of Paris. Book your spooky guided tour today.

There is nothing more fun than zipping around a city on a Segway and for teens, this has to be one of the best things to do in Paris. A Segway guided tour will allow teens to learn the landmarks, see architecture, explore the city of light and have fun doing it.

Visit the Paris Catacombs

Another place that is a massive part of French History is the Catacombs under Paris. When the cemeteries of Paris filled up in the Middle Ages, they bought the bones underground. You can tour them, and we highly suggest it for travelling teens visiting Paris.

It is a rather macabre experience, seeing skulls and bones lined, but it is done tastefully and respectably at the Paris Catacombs

The Moulin Rouge

The Moulin Rouge may not be for everyone, but many people flock to see the dancing show. Please be aware that women’s breasts are exposed while they dance. If this is something that you or your teens are not comfortable seeing, then this may not be the show for you.

You can get lovely pictures of the Red Windmill out the front during the day and see it lit up at night. The Moulin Rouge may not be appropriate for younger teens because of some nudity. Check out booking options here!

Some alternatives to the Moulin Rouge show in Paris are:

Les Invalids – Napoleon’s Tomb

This is a top place to visit in Paris with teens. It has the burial tomb of Napoleon there, as well as some other Military Commanders. You will be able to see the gold dome of Les Invalids from many places around the city; it is also stunning on the inside.

Top attractions in Paris with kids tip:

Next door to Les Invalids is The Army Museum which is absolutely fantastic. It is well worth a visit for a lesson in French history.

The Pantheon

We missed this amazing Paris site when we were on vacation in Paris, and it was not happening this time. We enjoyed wandering around and seeing the artwork, including the murals depicting the rise and fall of Joan of Arc.

The crypt is also another amazing place with the likes of Voltaire, Victor Hugo, and Marie and Pierre Curie. Book Pantheon tickets today for visiting Paris with teenagers.

Notre Dame

After the devastating fire on April 15th, 2019, Norte Dame Cathedral is closed until further notice to allow restoration. Notre-Dame is set to reopen for religious services and to the public on Dec. 8, 2024

It is still worth a visit to see the skeleton of the once-mighty Notre Dame de Paris. We have visited it every time we visited Paris, which is a stunning sight. Even with our recent trip to Paris, we still made the effort to visit the church, although it is fenced off and getting a good look at it is still difficult. Notre Dame is one of the 10 top things to do in Paris with a teenager.

Aquarium de Paris – Paris Aquarium

Aquariums aren’t for everyone, but you may need an indoor activity when visiting Paris with teens. Spending a few hours wandering the aquarium is a wonderful way to see what happens in an underwater world. Can you find Nemo or Dory?

Take advantage of the hands-on experiences offered during the day with qualified attendants or the educational presentations they run. With over 10,000 different fish and a plethora of marine life, you will love your time at the Paris Aquarium. You can save time and book your Aquarium ticket here
