Bandung Indonesia is located just 165 kilometres from the capital of Jakarta. In reality, Bandung could be on the other side of the country due to the differences in the two cities. One is wrapped in the sea and the other in steep mountain terrain. On your Bandung trip with teenagers, you will see a growing metropolis approaching 3 million people and they all seem to drive cars all at the same time! You will find plenty of things to do in Bandung.
What we did find out on our Bandung trip is it’s known for 2 things more than anything else. Number 1 is its climate, sitting nearly 1000 meters above sea level the Bandung weather is much cooler than Jakarta they say (to be honest I did not notice the difference much when we visited both cities) Number 2 is its traffic.
The traffic in Bandung is seriously congested, the worst I have seen anywhere on this planet, so far. You could just stand on the edge of the road stunned at the sheer number of cars and scooters before you. It is one thing that will stun you on your visit to Bandung.

Bandung Geological Museum
A visit to the Bandung Geological Museum is a must and for us here at Wyld Family Travel it was one of the best things to do in Bandung. As you walk into this amazing Bandung attraction, you are greeted by a giant 4 meters high Mammoth skeleton. This giant fossil dominates the entry hall and has the information about it on plaques on the side.
Around 70% completed with 30% missing some parts have been moulded to make this giant mammoth complete. The museum has a large collection of rocks and minerals found in Indonesia, the world and outer space.
The Geological Museum houses 13 different meteorite fragments that have been collected from Java. The star of the show is a section of an 11.5kg meteorite that fell in Java. You will learn about the minerals found in Indonesia with examples of crystals, coal, iron ore and more.
The collection of fossils is amazing with more skeletons and a special exhibition that changes over time. No Bandung trip with teens is completed without a visit to the Geologic Museum. It was a fantastic day for us and if you are visiting Bandung with homeschooled kids this is the best place in Bandung for a learning experience. This was our top Bandung attraction.

Bandung is a popular choice for a weekend getaway for residents of Jakarta. They come seeking the cooler climate of the highlands area. Speaking to people in Jakarta they often say Bandung is the best city in Indonesia to visit.
The Maribaya Lodge
Located in the hills above Bandung just near the town of Lembang is the Maribaya Lodge. I am not really sure how to describe this place except to say it is an Instagrammers delight! It is fake…yes that’s the word but still one of the most interesting places to go in Bandung.
It is certainly one of the most popular places to visit in Bandung. The concept of visiting the Maribaya Lodge is to get some great pictures doing fantastic activities that you are not really doing!
For instance, you get in a hot air balloon, the balloon lifts you 5 feet off the ground with a forest in the background making it look like you are up in the air. This also happens with hang gliders, swings, photo platforms and bike riding on a wire. It’s a good bit of fun that the kids will definitely enjoy. If you have teens that love insta then this should be one of the top things to do on your Bandung trip with teenagers.
On a sour note just across the road from the Maribaya Lodge is the Fairy Garden attraction which we visited as well. They will push you to buy a combined ticket for both attractions when you are buying tickets at Maribaya Lodge. They keep a lot of animals on display there and have horse rides. We found their horses had no food or water in the stalls on a day well above 30 degrees. Our eldest daughter Willow went and bought bottles of water and tried to give the horses water. It left us all slightly disappointed with our day out after that experience.

Tangkuban Perahu Volcano crater is located about an hour and 15 minutes from downtown Bandung. You can drive all the way to the edge of the crater and is a great day trip from Bandung. Like all attractions in Indonesia, you will find food and drink stalls and souvenir shops selling everything known to man up there.
Don’t worry though, there is no hiking up hills or through forests to reach the crater. You just park your car, look over the fenced-off area and there it is! A simple but quite thrilling Bandung attraction. The Volcano erupted in 1826, 1829, 1842, 1846, 1896, 1910, 1926, 1929, 1952, 1957, 1961, 1965, 1967, 1969, 1983, 2013 and 2015.
There sometimes can be a quite
strongsmell of sulphuric acid from the crater. Some people wear face masks like the types people wear in hospitals to help reduce the smell. If you have kids that are interested in nature but not the hiking part then this is the perfect place to visit on your Bandung trip with teenagers.
Lembang Floating Market
Floating Market is the most interesting places in Bandung. It is a big market centre with shops and restaurants lining the banks of the lake and food stalls floating on the lake. The price is very affordable and the food was traditional Indonesian fare.
You can make a day out of it with a swimming pool on-site and good shower facilities and lockers. You can take a ride around the lake on one of the many boats. This place is a must for a Bandung family trip.
Top tip for visiting Lembang floating market
If you plan on making some purchases at the Lembang market you will need to change your money into tokens that you use to pay. There are clearly marked stalls where you can exchange your money. Book your tickets to the Lembang Floating Market to save time and money right here.
