Having visited observation decks worldwide, from the Eiffel Tower to the Qingdao 369, we’ll help you decide if this one deserves your budget.

When I was planning our family trip to Bangkok, the King Power Mahanakhon Skywalk was one of the top attractions that kept popping up. What we had to decide was whether this Bangkok observation deck was worth nearly $100 for our group.

The first thing I noticed about this skyscraper was that it looked like something out of Minecraft. What I wanted to experience was the glass floor and the views of the city at 310 meters above ground.

My daughter Marley and I went up while my wife Rebecca, who’s not fond of heights, explored the shops below. This already cut our family expenses by a third – something to consider if anyone in your group does not like heights.

In this blog post, we’ll explain everything you need to know about visiting the Mahanakon Tower Skywalk, including ticket prices, what to expect, and tips for making the most of your visit. Hopefully, this will help you decide if the cost of entry is worth it.

All you need to know about the Mahanakhon Skywalk

Getting here won’t add much to your costs. Take the BTS Skytrain to Chong Nonsi station (about 40 baht from central Bangkok). The tower is impossible to miss, and it’s just a 2-minute walk from Exit 3.

Ticket Prices

  • Best Value Option: Daytime tickets (10:00 AM – 3:30 PM) at 1,000 baht (USD $30)
  • Premium Pricing: Evening tickets (4:30 PM – 6:30 PM) at 1,200 baht (USD $36)
  • Avoid: Weekends and holidays when prices increase furth
  • Conversions to AUD and USD based on the exchange rate as of 12/3/25

Marley and I headed into the building, leaving Bec outside to have a look at the surrounding shops. When entering the Mahanakon Skywalk, you will be directed into several lines, one line for people needing to buy tickets like us and another line for people who have bought tickets online.

You can easily get your tickets online at Klook and Get Your Guide to help skip the line. You will be directed towards the elevators that take you to the top. You’ll find much like an airport, your bags must be checked through a scanner before you are allowed entry elevator.

Anything larger than a purse or a small sling bag are required to be checked into a locker before you can proceed to the top. Alpaca makes some great small travel bags that are perfect and will hold your phone, Anker charger and cards.

As we waited for the lift, I happened to glance up at the roof. There is an amazing 3D model of Bangkok hanging from the ceiling. See if you can spot the yellow building on the map. That will be the Mahanakhon Tower.

The elevators were big, and around 20 of us piled in for the trip to the top. The elevators were so cool. The walls and roof turned into giant screens, and images flashed and played all around you.

The Mahanakhon Skywalk Experience

The Mahanakhon Tower stands at 310 meters, making it taller than the Eiffel Tower but shorter than other famous towers like the Qingdao 369 and Taipei 101.

Enclosed 360 Degree Observation Deck

We exited the elevator on the enclosed 74th floor with glass windows from floor to ceiling. The most popular spots for photos seem to be on the corners; well, that’s where all the Instagrammers were headed.

Marley ended up taking pictures for a girl from Germany, who was checking Instagram to see where the most popular shots were taken. On this floor, you will find a cafe serving coffee and drinks with few seats scattered around.

Worth Factor: ⭐⭐⭐ (Good, but not exceptional)

  • Floor-to-ceiling windows with 360° views
  • Air-conditioned comfort (a big plus in Bangkok’s heat)
  • Popular photo spots in the corners
  • Café selling drinks and food
  • Often crowded at sunset hours

Outdoor 360 Degree Observation Deck

The real star of the show is on the 78th floor; the heat will strike you first, then the expansiveness of Bangkok slaps you in the face. You feel so much higher and vulnerable, truth be told, when no roof and only glass panels separate you from falling 310 meters to the ground.

There was a lot of seating, which I found good; it was like they were encouraging you to spend lots of time up here taking in Bangkok. Most attractions are more than happy to rush you in and out.

Worth Factor: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (The main attraction)

  • Unobstructed 360° views from 310 meters up
  • The famous glass floor skywalk
  • No roof overhead – more thrilling but also more intense
  • My honest take: This is where you’ll decide if your money was well spent. My daughter Marley’s reaction (this is not for me) shows it might be too intense for some

The Mahanakhon Skywalk

The Skywalk is the 78th floors main attraction. A completely transparent floor extending over the edge of the building gives visitors a birds eye view of Bangkok’s skyline. Walking out onto the clear glass platform with a 310-meter drop can either be thrilling or frightening.

It was funny watching some people approach the glass platform with determination only to back-peddle with fear. Marley was one of those people, while I happily made my way out on the glass floor and sat down for a while taking in the experience.

Worth Factor: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Unique but brief)

  • Looking straight down 310 meters is genuinely thrilling
  • Great for photos (when you can get a spot)
  • Usually, there is a queue during peak hours for entry
  • Not everyone will have the courage to try it

Photo Opportunities: Check popular apps like Instagram and TikTok for the best spots. Like all good attractions, they take your photo on the way in and superimpose the best views behind you. You can purchase the pictures on the way out.

Food and drinks

There were a number of options for food and drinks, but as you can imagine, the prices are terribly expensive. We opted not to buy anything while we were up there. I could have easily grabbed a drink, sat on the tables and chairs, and enjoyed the view, but I didn’t. If you choose to, here are some of the prices from the Sky Bar on the 78th floor.

  • Coke: 140 baht
  • Beer: 280 baht
  • Champagne: 7,400 baht per bottle
  • Cocktails: starting at 460 baht
  • Coffee: 160 Baht

Money-saving strategy: If you want the full experience without the premium prices, consider:

  1. Visit during cheaper daytime hours
  2. Skip the overpriced refreshments
  3. Plan a separate visit to a nearby rooftop bar for sunset drinks
  4. Bring a small water bottle (allowed through security)

When should I visit the King Power Mahanakhon?

There are no wrong times; your experience at Mahanakhon King Power will still be memorable no matter what time you visit.

Cost vs. experience breakdown:

Morning visit (10:00 AM – 3.30 PM)

  • Lowest price: 1,000 baht
  • Clearest visibility
  • Minimal waiting times
  • Best for glass floor photos
  • Value Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sunset visit (4:30 PM – 6:30 PM)

  • Higher price: 1,200 baht
  • Golden hour lighting
  • 30-45 minute waits are common
  • Crowded photo spots
  • Value Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Book an afternoon ticket, stay up the top till 4.30, then head to Trok Silom Rooftop bar just 150 meters away where you can enjoy the sunset without the premium pricing.

Final thoughts

Is it a must-do in Bangkok? Is it worth the money to visit? If you can comfortably afford it, Mahanakhon offers a memorable experience. Marley and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We spent over an hour enjoying the views and kicking back on the top level.

However, it’s not a must-do for everyone, especially budget-conscious travelers.

If you have the money I would say yes go up the tower if you don’t have the budget head to Icon Siam on the river which has a good viewing platform on the 6th floor for free.
